Designers appointed for Origin
The Crafts Council have appointed Ben Kelly Design (BKD) and MARC&ANNA to create the design campaign for this years Origin: The London Craft Fair, at Somerset House from 7-19 October 2008.
MARC&ANNA will lead on the marketing design and BKD will design the pavilion that will house the fair in the courtyard of the Edmond J. Safra courtyard at Somerset House. The campaign has to fully illustrate all elements of the Origin experience; an exciting, dynamic and accessible environment in which to buy, see and enjoy the very best in contemporary craft. Origin is an established and prestigious contemporary craft fair that showcases the work of over 300 makers from all disciplines of craft alongside an interactive educational programme. A vibrant and contemporary campaign will show the unique nature of craft and its practitioners and will aim to encourage people to learn more about contemporary craft at Origin.
Ben Kelly Design is an interior design practice, founded by Ben Kelly, who have produced numerous high-profile and innovative spaces becoming leaders in the field. BKD created the elegant and modern pavilion for the inaugural Origin in 2006 and then again in 2007.
“We are excited to be working on Origin for the third year and look forward to coming up with a new fresh feel for the fair. The courtyard at Somerset House is an inspiring venue and the design of the pavilion will reflect that.”

MARC&ANNA is a small, independent graphic design consultancy founded by Marc Atkinson and Anna Ekelund in 2005. Since forming they have worked with clients such as The National Trust, English Heritage, British Heart Foundation and the Energy Saving Trust.
“This is a great opportunity for MARC&ANNA and we are thrilled to be working on such a high profile event with the Crafts Council and Somerset House. As Graphic designers we are fascinated by both the creativity and technical processes of how craft objects are made. The exciting element will be translating this into a compelling campaign to attract people to Origin.”
Marc Atkinson, Creative Director, MARC&ANNA
“We are thrilled to be working with MARC&ANNA for the first time and to be working again with Ben Kelly on what we are sure will be a fresh and striking campaign for a highly established event on the cultural calendar. The initial proposals from MARC&ANNA were completely in tune with what Origin is about and Ben Kelly, no doubt, will come up with something equally exciting and innovative.”
