Following our note about Government support for pop-up shops in June, further information has now been announced as to how the £3 million funding will be allocated.
The Department for Communities and Local Government (DCLG) has split the funds equally into 57 grants for local authorities in areas of high deprivation, and planning and leasing regulations will be modified in these councils to allow for creative regeneration of town centres.
Arts Council England (ACE) have also dedicated £500,000 to the scheme, and are inviting artists and creative thinkers to bid for grants that would allow them to transform empty lots into hubs of artistic activity. Individuals can apply as well as groups and organisations.
ACE will be giving priority to projects
• where the activity begins within three months of a grant being awarded
• that are sustainable and will have the most impact on community life
• where strong local partnerships are in place and where the presence of artists would underpin and contribute to local strategies and arts development
Full details of how to apply for ACE funding can be found here.
