Craft Club film
Help us make a film of our knitted lives
To celebrate the next phase of Craft Club - we are making a short film about the role knitting and crocheting plays in people’s lives - and we need your help to make it.
We would like images (and the real thing if you can lend it to us for a while) of the knitted and crocheted objects that are particularly treasured or mark significant times in your life. So the knitted monster you couldn’t live without as a child, a crocheted garter your wore on your wedding day, the first pair of socks you successfully made or a yarn-bombed lamppost that inspired you to become a guerrilla knitter.
We want this film to be a shared story of our lives stretching from birth and childhood, through teenage years to adult life and retirement, ending with the end of life. Knitting and crocheting have an emotional resonance that we want to capture on film but we need your help to do this.
How to get involved
Send your images to knit1@craftclub.org.uk or send knitted items to Craft Club Film, Crafts Council, 44a Pentonville Road, London N1 9BY, by the end of November.
Why are we doing this?
We know how passionate people are about knitting and crocheting and we want to spread this passion on to the next generation. That is why we launched Craft Club in 2010 – to get children and young people across the UK learning to knit.
There are now nearly 400 Craft Clubs running in schools across the UK. We now want Craft Club to extend beyond the classroom into a variety of community settings – including cinemas. We want to launch Craft Club with a film that shows knitting and crocheting in all its glory which is why we are asking for your help.
