The Crafts Council Collection is the UK’s foremost national collection of contemporary craft, embracing all craft disciplines from ceramics to jewellery and textiles to glass, and featuring the most important makers of the last 40 years. With over 1400 objects, the Collection provides a distinctive and authoritative view of contemporary craft, from its interface with design to its cross-over with digital art.

Now, we want to ensure that the Collection is even more firmly placed at the heart of all the Crafts Council’s work with museums and galleries, audiences, children, young people and craft professionals. We want to relaunch our online Collection to give visitors a wealth of information about the objects on view; we want to ensure that we can acquire the most iconic large-scale contemporary craft, making it available for the nation; we want to acquire more works that tell the story of the country’s leading makers; and we want to increase the opportunities for the Collection to be seen throughout the country in museums, galleries and other venues. Last year, hundreds of thousands of people across the country had the chance to see works from the Collection in museums, galleries, libraries and schools across the country. We want to make sure that we reach even more people in future.

We need your support to make this vision a reality and we launched the Ruby Circle in our 40th year specifically to support these exciting developments. All donations through the Ruby Circle will be dedicated to enhancing the Collection and helping people to use and enjoy it.

Ruby Circle members will have unprecedented opportunities to learn more about Crafts Council Collection objects in the company of experts including makers and curators. Members will also be invited to private events at studios and galleries, private views of Crafts Council exhibitions and an annual dinner with Crafts Council trustees and directors, and will receive a complimentary subscription to Crafts magazine.

In further recognition of their unique contribution, Ruby Circle members will be especially credited in association with the Crafts Council Collection, with their name associated with an object of their choice.

The Collection is the Crafts Council’s most important resource for the nation – both craft professionals and craft lovers. Please help us to make it even better!
