The Crafts Council and other craft happenings at this year's London Design Festival
It’s that time of year again where London is treated to a veritable feast of design thanks to London Design Festival, or LDF to its friends.
This year LDF takes place from 13 to 21 September and as usual there’s a healthy dose of craft exhibitions, talks and events happening not least from the Crafts Council and Crafts Magazine so we’ve done a quick round-up for you...
Crafting Narrative: Storytelling through objects and making
Pitzhanger Manor House & Gallery, 10 September to 19 October
Crafting Narrative, guest curated by Onkar Kular, explores how contemporary designers and makers use objects to tell stories drawing on themes of history, culture, society and technology.
Space Craft: architecture meets making
Tent London, Super Brands, Stand 55, 18 to 21 September
Space Craft, explores the relationship between architecture and craft featuring makers inspired by architecture and a new generation of architects putting the physical act of making at the heart of their practice.
Crafts Council Crafting Narrative showcase
Designjunction, stand F69, 18 to 21 September
The Crafts Council will present a unique new film by R&A Collaborations looking at the Crafting Narrative themes by stitching together a series of stills alongside an object by Carl Clerkin.
Crafts Magazine is setting up shop at designjunction and Tent London so you have plenty of opportunity to take advantage of the current subscription offer and buy your copy of the special 250th edition (selling like the proverbial hot cakes as we write).
And Crafts Magazine editor Grant Gibson is chairing a number of talks: Design Rediscovers Making at Designjunction on18 September at 4pm with Space Craft exhibitors FleaFollyArchitects and Laura Ellen Bacon: a talk at 100% Design on 18 September at 1.30pm with Glithero: Danish Design Heritage at Tent London on 20 September at 11am, and taking part in Designing Craft, crafting design panel discussion at Decorex on 22 September at 11am.
And in brief ...
Total Fabrication at Craft Central is an interactive exhibition of contemporary design for interiors with a material twist.
Shine showcasing talent in goldsmithing, silversmithing and jewellery at The Goldmsiths' Centre.
All Change - Tassels On The Tube is a showcase of passementerie by Jessica Light in the unusual venue of Old Street Station.
Bear, Chairs and Feathered Wares at Jimbobart is a unique installation/collection by James Ward, Charlie McKenzie, and Zack McLaughlin.
The Saturday Market Project is an interactive celebration of exceptional raw materials, tools and technology from makers Barn the Spoon, Abbeyhorn, Katherine Pogson, Marine Duroselle and Rowena Murray.
Ceramics in the City is an annual fair selling work by around 50 potters from across the UK at the Geffrye Museum
Future Heritage at Decorex is a selection of some of the UK's craft makers to collect as selected by Corinne Julius, freelance journlaist and broadcaster.
