Dish with Pebbles and Shells by Dail Behennah

Chosen by Shauna Gregg, Keeper of art at Sunderland Museum & Winter Gardens

We ask makers, curators, designers, creative practitioners and the Crafts Council team to select their favourite object from the Crafts Council Collection and to tell us why.

Shauna Gregg, keeper of art at Sunderland Museum & Winter Gardens

Her work evokes such a feeling of calm and peace.

This piece is currently on loan to Sunderland Museum & Winter Gardens and I recently installed it in the exhibition Recollected: Work from the Arts and Crafts Council Collections. It was the piece that surprised me the most to see in real life. Her work evokes such a feeling of calm and peace. I admire the skill Behennah displayed in creating such a beautiful object. I also like the idea of someone spending time and taking great care using natural ‘found’ objects to create a work of art.
