Ruthin Craft Centre's latest exhibition looks to challenge our perceptions of wood
Bringing together 14 makers, Is it Wood? examines the variety of different approaches taken towards the medium today. From the vibrant colours of Fred Baier's furniture to Sophie Smallhorn's explorations of volume and proportion, all the selected makers look beyond the traditional conventions of their craft.
As exhibition curator Mary La Trobe-Bateman writes, 'Wood is a wonderful material to work with; it is a material that is hard enough to be strong yet soft enough to be workable. It is versatile, it can be handled in many different ways and as you see here it can be used to evoke emotions and ideas beyond the material.'
Is it Wood? is at Ruthin Craft Centre until 30 November
