January/February issue of Crafts magazine is out now
We usher in the new year with not one but two souvenir covers. The first stars the work of iconic ceramist Ken Price whose sculptures and drawings are the subject of major new exhibition at Hauser & Wirth in London. Art historian Garth Clark asks why it took so long for Price’s genius to be recognised. The second features surreal jewellery by designer Silvia Weidenbach – one of four renowned makers we caught up with ahead of the Crafts Council’s international art fair, Collect, where they will all be showing their work.
Inside, we pay a visit to Peter Marigold to hear why materials don’t always matter, and stop by the Glasgow studio of Jonathan Boyd to find out about an exciting new project in silver, ceramics and film.
PLUS, designer Jasper Morrison pays tribute to the ingenuity of rural Portuguese crafts, Glenn Adamson selects six seminal works by Peter Voulkos, and chairmakers Sitting Firm show us a brand new addition to their workshop.
