Applications are now open for submissions to  Real to Reel: The Craft Film Festival 2017.

Produced by the Crafts Council and Crafts magazine this is the first UK festival dedicated to craft and moving image. The 2017 Festival will return to Picturehouse Central for a three evening takeover on 2, 3 and 4 May coinciding with London Craft Week.

We are inviting submissions for films that will challenge assumptions about craft, surpass expectations about filmmaking, and most importantly share knowledge and delight.

We are interested in all genres: documentaries, story-led films and animation that capture skill in action, unveil hidden processes and invite us to look again at materials and those who shape them.

In 2016, 36 films were selected from over 300 submissions. Highlights included award-winning director Liam Saint-Pierre’s documentary following artist and inventor Dominic Wilcox on his quest to transform the mundane into something extraordinary, and Lionel T Dean’s tribute to 1950s Japanese science fiction T-Rex versus The Gorilla: Quest for the Stone. The festival also featured the UK premiere of Gill & Gill, which looks at humanity’s relationship with stone through the stories of two masters: rock-climber John Gill and lettercutter Eric Gill.

We look forward to receiving the next wave of trailblazing submissions from UK and international film makers.
