The festival returns with a programme of exhibitions, talks and workshops in and around Stroud
Though textiles remains at the heart of this festival, formerly known as Stroud International Textiles, there are many disciplines and materials on show. In Power of Ten, the first of two guest-curated shows, Andy Christian ‘avoids the decorative in favour of works that may provoke a sense of disquiet or invoke wonder ‘ bringing together work by Rozanne Hawksley, Susie Gillespie and Kerry Jameson, among others, at the Museum in the Park. While at Newark Park, Charlotte Abrahams embraces the decorative curating Pasting the Walls: a celebration of 21st century wallpaper with Linda Florence and Marthe Armitage on the exhibitor list. Elsewhere, and plucked from a programme packed with events, a World Textiles Weekend runs from 9-10 May while Crafts magazine’s own Design Doctor, director of the Design Trust Patricia van den Akker is running a workshop on 23 May.
Select Festival runs from 2 to 25 May in various venues in and around Stroud, Gloucestershire.
