Atelier NL’s practice is often as much focussed on heritage and origins as it is on creating something new.
Their approach is largely research-led, almost anthropological in methodology, and their results are born from examinations of the natural every day, observations of the environment, history and human experience. This is channelled into objects and systems that enrich and enliven that which we see around us and that which we partake in every day. Their work favours the analogue over the digital and champions the subversion of previously historic processes to produce playful yet meaningful pieces that celebrate their own materials and making.
Nadine Sterk and Lonny van Ryswyck make up the Netherlands based studio and have been working together since studying at the Design Academy Eindhoven in 2006.
