Tom is a designer and a producer, specialising in object and experience design
He’s currently working on a number of research and startup projects that explore experiences in the Internet of Things and has recently produced REACT Objects Sandbox – a programme that funded and supported six collaborations between academics and creative studios to explore human experiences in the Internet of Things.
He has a background in both academia and industry, having recently worked in senior positions at rAndom International and the Product Research Studio in Dundee. He’s the co-founder of Fieldguide, an occasional collective and sometimes journal for people interested in design, technology, society and the intersections where they overlap.
Tom is also part of the creative cohort involved in the 'Being There: Humans and Robots in Public Spaces' project exploring how cutting-edge robotics might impact upon the way public spaces are experienced and bridge the gap between how we communicate in person and online.
His work has been presented and exhibited at Selfridges, Wellcome Trust, British Library, Christie’s, V&A and Design Miami as well as at design and technology festivals such as London Design Festival and the Mozilla Festival.
He’s produced events and hackathons, with a focus on making and physical hacks and has been module leader and tutor on postgraduate Product Design programmes. He’s also delivered workshops and talks internationally around objects, experience design and emerging technologies at events including O'Reilly Solid, SXSW, UnBox Labs, Sotheby’s and NID India as well as for organisations such as Ogilvy and Arts Council England.
