In 1991 renowned graphic designer Malcolm Garrett asked, in his now seminal essay, if ‘The Book is Dead?’ Revisiting this question twenty years on, Garrett has selected six bookbinding and letterpress works from the Crafts Council Collection. In light of the ever-growing influence of digital media, each selected work highlights the importance of the book as a tangible object, and illustrates that ‘conventional’ publishing still has an important role to play.

Including work by Ron King, Faith Shannon and The Rampant Lion Press, this selection of books and prints is suited to exhibition spaces of15-30 m². The exhibition can compliment educational activities, or enhance a borrower’s own collection.

Malcolm Garrett, known for his passion for interactive design, has pioneered the use of many new digital publishing technologies. Recently he has led the design of projects for The Open Futures Trust, MoMA, New York, and The Sharp Project.
