    Abingdon County Hall Museum

    Abingdon

    Abingdon County Hall Museum is a perfectly-preserved Restoration building in the centre of Abingdon, housing collections from the Iron Age, Roman town, the finest collection of Anglo-Saxon jewellery and personal items from Oxfordshire and outstanding Medieval finds. It also holds the Oxfordshire Collection of Contemporary Craft including pottery, ceramics, furniture and textiles.

Many of the objects have been collected from artists living and working in the South East of England. The collection includes ceramics by Richard Slee, Elizabeth Fritsch, Alison Britton and Carol McNicoll, Textiles by Ann Sutton, Alice Kettle and Tadek Beutlich, jewellery by Adam Paxon, Jane Adam and Cynthia Cousens, and furniture by Wales and Wales.

    The Crafts Study Centre is the UK's only specialist museum of modern craft in a purpose-built museum, related to a distinguished collection of modern and contemporary craft. The Centre's acclaimed collections include modern and contemporary calligraphy, ceramics, textiles, furniture and wood as well as makers' diaries, working notes and photographs dating from the 1920s.

    The Embroiderers' Guild is the leading craft organisation in the UK promoting embroidery. The collection of over 11,000 embroidered and related objects is global in scope, showing the varied historical and cultural contexts of embroidery production and use.     Reading Museum Service is a centre of excellence in providing opportunities for life long learning through real objects and original documents. Reading Museum has been collecting craft objects since its founding 125 years ago. It has some notable decorative art collections, particularly ceramics, and contemporary work from the 1860s onwards. During the 1960s and 1970s a large and significant group of British Studio Craft - ceramics, embroidered pictures, dyed fabrics and weavings, was collected specifically for loan to schools.
