My work
Jonathan Field uses salvaged oak in his work to create crisp, contemporary furniture with a narrative twist.
Wind-felled, fully grown English oak that otherwise would end up in the chipper is given a second life in furniture that allows the wood’s previous life to show though.
He first selects the timber individually. Shrinkage cracks from drying, burrs and the line of the grain all come into play when choosing the right pieces for a particular job.
His aim is to create clear functional furniture that goes beyond the initial purpose of the commission, furniture that is a joy to touch, use and live with.
The furniture can be made to any size and it can also be ebonized to give a rich black finish. Please ring or email to discuss a project.
