The Textile Society is a registered charity which aims to unite scholars, designers, teachers, practitioners, artists, collectors and others who share an interest in the study of textile art, design and history. Each year, the Textile Society offers bursaries and awards to textile students and museums to support textile-related projects. These include -The Professional Development Award. This new Award was launched in 2007 and is aimed at supporting those people who work whether for an institution as curator, craftsperson or designer or other, self employed or study at PhD level in textiles or dress, you must have been a member of the society for at least 3 years. One award of £1,000 will be given. The Textile Society Student Bursary: The Society runs a scheme offering a number of Student Bursaries to students who are involved in textile related studies, whether historical, artistic, design, scientific or a commercial study such as Journalism, Marketing etc. The bursaries are mainly intended for BA or MA final year projects or dissertations. Each applicant may receive up to £500. The Textile Society Museum, Archive, Library or Repository Award: The Society runs an award, which aims at supporting projects within a museum, archive, library or repository. An award of £1,000 is given to a textile related project, there are no specific criteria for what we support as the Society realises that there are many textile projects which need support. Its aim is to help achieve greater awareness and public access to textile and dress collections. See website for more information.
