Engage promotes access to, enjoyment and understanding of the visual arts through gallery education - projects and programmes which help schoolchildren and the wider community become confident in their understanding and enjoyment of the visual arts and galleries. With around 1,000 members, engage is one of the leading associations for professionals working in the visual arts. Membership is drawn from both the gallery and education sectors, and includes an increasing number of overseas members. Today, engage not only supports projects in schools and galleries, but also outreach programmes in the community. Engage holds a unique collection of documents in our Resource, an archive of information dating from the beginnings of Gallery Education in the 1970's to the present. The Resource includes books, reports, journals, research papers, teaching materials, and individual articles. The engage resource is now housed at Iniva's Stuart Hall Library where it can be accessed by the general public on a reference-only basis.
