The London Design Festival notches up a gear for its second week with flagship events such as 100% Design opening on 24 September (until 27 September)

As usual everyone who is anyone seems to be involved in 100% Design, and this year’s new creative director JAM hopes to make it an even bigger hit than last year when the event pulled in an impressive 26,000 plus visitors. There are lots of individual exhibitors doing their stuff here – many launching new products – as well some interesting group stands. In particular, look out for the Design-Nation stand featuring work by seven of its members, including Jessica Preston who makes elaborate, sculptural textiles inspired by the paper-folding and manipulating techniques associated with origami.

For something a bit different, check out 100% Inspired which features work selected by each committee member that represents 100% Design to them. The idea is to chose something that has never been in a trade show, so there should be a good selection of entirely new, and with any luck, inspiring products. For a less British take on design, visit 100% Norway. Here you can see Wik & Walsoe’s Elfin porcelain cups, beakers and plates, each with the silhouette of a fairy figure surrounded by the outlines of frozen branches – the delicacy of the decoration rescuing the design from any tweeness – as well as classic Norwegian mid-century furniture such as Fora Form’s City Chair first created in 1954 and now re-launched in a new range of colours and finishes.
