The Harley Gallery showcases work by the colourful jack of all trades Andrew Logan until 14 June

Andrew Logan is an artist extremely difficult to pin down. He trained as an architect, has worked as a sculptor, a set designer, a jeweller and in interior design, has exhibited at both craft centres (Ruthin most recently) and fine art venues and is also the man behind the Alternative Miss World Competitions. He is an artistic butterfly, flitting from one field to another in a quest for the new, the colourful and the glamorous. As he says: ‘My reason for living is to give enjoyment and pleasure to others through quirky, humorous and extravagant mementos.’ This unquenchable love of variety (of both styles and media) and Logan’s overwhelming sense of dynamism comes over strongly in his new exhibition, An Artistic Adventure, at the Harley Gallery.

On show are examples of his brightly coloured, intricately patterned jewellery, his mosaic-style mirrored sculptures and some of his mobiles. There are also a few of his flamboyant pop art-style portraits of celebrities such as Zandra Rhodes and Maria Callas. It’s a far cry from the Harley’s normal tasteful offerings of well-mannered craft.
