ARTDEJARDIN
Shell Form, Peter Beard, ceramic
For the fifth year running, the outdoor sculpture show ARTDEJARDIN takes place at Wing in Rutland (until 31 August)
This event is held in the gardens of John and Rose Dejardin who both designed the garden and curate the exhibition. It’s smaller than some of the other outdoor shows, with only 21 artists, but many of the exhibitors are of high calibre. For example Ruth Moilliet will be displaying some of her giant, stainless steel seed heads; Neil Wilkins’s dramatic glass plant forms will also be there; as will Laura Ellen Bacon’s bulbous nest forms and cocoons made out of woven willow. Other familiar names are glass artist Rebecca Newnham and wood sculptor Alison Crowther.
Newcomers this year include textile artist Carole Waller, best known for her colourful painted banners normally displayed in a gallery setting, but who has recently developed a way of enclosing them in a tough glass-like sheath so that they can placed outside, as well as stone sculptor Nicolas Moreton and bronze artist Jenny Turtill.
