A new exhibition at Kath Libbert Jewellery in Saltaire showcases work by ten graduates (until 31 January)

The work was selected by Kath Libbert at this year’s New Designers. Called Bright/Light: An Exhibition of Contrasts, it includes a bit of everything with exhibits ranging from Lydia Feast’s delicate enamel brooches to Shona MacSween’s startling, crystal-studded cutsey animal brooches. But for Libbert the star of the show is Claire Knox-Bentham, a mature student from Manchester Metropolitan University who works with coloured industrial glue. Libbert says, ‘I was bowled over by her work which I thought was particularly special.’ She’s commissioned Knox-Bentham to make two huge wall hangings for the show and says, ‘Unlike the neckpieces she creates that are abstract, these are full of amazingly drawn faces. The more you look at them the more you see!’ Other details merging from the delicate, lace-like pattern include a random mix of fish bones, skulls and flowerheads.

Alongside the ten new graduates, Kibbert has also sneaked in two ‘nearly new’ graduates, Lina Peterson and Jahyun Rita Baek. Peterson is showing a group of jigsaw-puzzle brooches in wood, silver and plastic and Baek her necklaces and earrings made out of acrylic discs.
