London goes jewellery mad during Coutts London Jewellery Week (8-14 June)
Venues across the capital are celebrating all things jewelled this week, with a sprawling programme of specially organised events, exhibitions, talks, workshops and demonstrations. Hatton Gardens, the traditional heart of London’s jewellery industry, are organising a mini festival from 11-13 June which will include trips to private workshops, a special jewellery trail, children’s workshops and themed walks and talks.
Events further afield include Brilliance at Craft Central, a selling exhibition of work by 15 designers including An Alleweireldt, whose current work is inspired by string, and Fiona Wright who has used recycled paper in her new collection exploring tree-shape forms. Another show which promises to be worth a visit is at the Margo Selby Gallery where a group of Design-Nation jewellers will be showing off their wares; look out for work by Alice Highet, Tanvi Kant and Alex Ramsay here. And then there’s jewellery with a difference at Zest, where the gallery is showcasing work in glass. Exhibitors here include Charlotte Verity, who recently won a Goldsmiths Craftsmanship and Design Gold Award with pieces made from groups of lustred blown bubbles, and Antje Illner who is a jewellery tutor at the RCA.
