East London Design Show

Now an annual, pre-Christmas shopping fixture, The East London Design Show takes place this weekend at Shoreditch Town Hall (4-6 December)
There’s a whole range of designer-makers showing here, People Will Always Need Plates, which makes traditional, dinner-part- style bone china plates screen printed with very un-traditional industrial views. Gone are the ususal English landscapes and in their places are beautifully drawn pictures of gasometers, cranes and coalmines; as it proudly proclaims, ‘British industry is dead. Long live British industry!’ In the jewellery section look out for Vicky Davies’s striking, deceptively simple pieces, and in textiles, Wallace and Sewell, including the likes of their colourful, geometric patterned scarves, promises to be one of the stars of the show. A final favourite is YoYo Ceramics – best known for its witty ceramic renditions of old-fashioned kitchen stalwarts such as the tuperware box – which has now launched a ceramic notepad.
