As part of Galvanize Sheffield, Sheffield Hallam University is holding a workshop and exhibition exploring work by leading UK metalworkers (workshop 20-21 November, exhibition 19-28 November)

Keypiece, has been set up by Coilin O’ Dubhghaill in collaboration with Christoph Zellweger and Maria Hanson with the aim of getting a group of metalworkers together to talk about their research. It follows an unusual format, as it’s a research-based project which developed into a fully grown exhibition. As O’ Dubhghaill explains: ‘It started as a seminar, but we decided that we needed the objects as well as the artists to get a proper dialogue about their work and so it grew into an exhibition’. Each of the ten exhibitors have been asked to select one keypiece, and discussion why they chose each particular piece will be the starting point for the seminar. O’ Dubhghaill hopes that the talks will add another, spontaneous element to the exhibition, as the artists create what he describes as ‘a massive notebook unfolding in the workshop space’ which will remain in place throughout the exhibition.

The artists involved have all been selected because of their interest in research work and include, Tine de Ruysser, Lionel Dean, Grace Horne, Antje Illner, Drummond Masterton, Sarah O’Hana and Lucian Taylor.
