The Scottish Glass Society celebrates its 30th anniversary with Migrate, a touring exhibition of work by 30 society members

The exhibition opens at Inverness Museum and Art Gallery on 4 July (until 1 August) before touring to Wick (8 August- 12 September), Kingussie (19 September – 17 October) and finally ending up at Broadfield House Glass Museum from 14 November until March 2010. The 30 glass artists have been selected to show off the range of makers in the Society – from glass stars such as Alison Kinnaird and Max Jacquard to younger makers such as Dominic Fondé – as well as the range of techniques they practice. For example Denis Mann specialises in copper wheel engraving, Kate Henderson makes stained glass windows, Rachel Elliott produces sculptural glass and Keiko Mukaïdé is best known for her glass installations. The various works are all – slightly tenuously – linked by the theme of migration and the ways different artists express a sense of place in their work.

The Scottish Glass Society is an artist-led, not-for-profit organisation and is one of the oldest of its kind in the UK. It was set up to help promote Scottish glass and today has over 200 members.
