As ever there lots of good reasons to visit Yorkshire Sculpture Park this autumn, but two particularly good temporary exhibitions provide added incentive.

The first is the Peter Randall-Page show, on until January. Randall-Page is one of the UK’s leading stone-carvers and this exhibition is his biggest show yet. It includes two giant sculptures made out of Kilkenny limestone specially for the show, as well as a good selection of new work such as a series of six terracotta wall works. The 100 or so works are displayed both outside – look out for In the Mind of the Monk, three vast, brain-like spheres dramatically displayed against a yew hedge – and inside, where a display of maquettes and sketches explore his working processes. One of the show highlights is a recently made installation of 18 glacial boulders, each of which are carved with low-relief geometric patterns in a satisfying marriage of natural organic forms and naturally occurring geometry.

The second exhibition is Grayson Perry’s touring Unpopular Culture on until 25 October. It displays Perry’s selections from the Arts Council Collection alongside his own work. The exhibition includes photography, sculpture and painting brought together to express his alternative view of twentieth century British Art, one of quiet restraint and tension between the conservative and the radical.
