Weave Within

Duality, Cos Ahmet

Duality, Cos Ahmet

Work by members of the British Tapestry Group is currently on show at two venues in Sterling (until 8 November)

Weaving Within showcases work by the BTG, a group which was set up in 2005 to bring tapestry to a wider audience. BTG member Cos Ahmet says, ‘Our driving belief is that woven tapestry is a very special medium with enormous creative potential’. It’s a small group but it includes well-known textiles artists such as Jennie Moncur and Margaret Crowther amongst its growing membership. Some members work using traditional weaving techniques, but others, such as Ahmet are exploring ways of extending the medium by combining it with disciplines such as etching and printmaking.

The Stirling exhibition (hosted jointly by Sterling Castle and Stirling Smith Art Gallery and Museum) focuses on small format work. It includes Creation and Duality, two pieces from Ahmet’s new body of work, BODY-logues. He says of them, ‘The exhibition has given me the perfect platform in which to explore and test these new ideas and concepts where I push tapestry from this craft persona to an artform identity.’
