Wool Works at Exposure Gallery

Textile duo, We are Craftwork, are showing new pieces at London’s Exposure Gallery until 30 October

Wool Works are two large-scale wall hangings made from a series of giant metal and wool ropes. Each rope has been handmade by fashion designer Caroline Smithson and architect Mehrnoosh Khadivi who twisted hanks of raw wool into strands before fastening them with aluminium tubes and scattering them with macramé knots and pompoms. The result is an abstract, tapestry-like form that contains subtle detailing and contrasts in the texture.

We are Craftwork was created after the pair met during weekly knitting and crocheting sessions. They gradually came to the conclusion that their skills could be used to create a range of both decorative and functional objects and decided to go into partnership together in 2007. Since then they’ve shown at London Fashion Week and now Mourad Mazouz (of Sketch and Momo fame) has commissioned them to produce some hangings for his new pop-up restaurant at the Royal Academy.
