Christmas Crackers
It’s still eight weeks to Christmas but Sheffield’s Millennium Gallery is already getting in the mood with Christmas Crackers opening there this week (until 8 January)
This popular Christmas gift fair showcases 90 or so makers and designers. Work covers a huge variety of materials and styles (and prices) with objects ranging from jewellery to candles and metalwork. Favourites here include Hanne Rysgaard’s witty milk-carton shaped porcelain jugs decorated in chirpy colours and John White’s understated wooden vessels made out of spalted beech focusing on the extraordinary natural patterns of the wood itself. Other names to look out for are local maker Charlotte Tollyfield (silversmith) and Sheffield-based textile artist Sarah Waterhouse.
