Great Northern Contemporary Crafts

The Great Northern Contemporary Craft Fair comes back to Manchester’s Spinningfields for the fourth year (20-23 October)

This is a big event featuring makers working across the disciplines in a range of styles and materials. The exhibitors are an interesting mix of well-established names – like metalworker Cathy Miles or ceramist Ken Eardley – as well as newer, less-well known makers. In fact this is a great place to spot new talent as the organisers have included a stand showcasing work by recent Manchester Metropolitan graduates as well as a handful selected from this year’s One Year On. Particularly interesting here are Catherine Fuga-Carr’s glass bowls: they look like a rather stiff crocheted doily but are in fact delicately made out of glass. Also from One Year on is Clare Knox Bentham, who will be showing some of her extraordinary wall hung ‘tapestries’ drawn out of a mesh of melted liquid plastic. They will be showing alongside wood turner Kylie Coles and jeweller Kate Holdsworth.
