Expect high-fashion drama at Somerset House with its new exhibition Valentino: Master of Couture, running from 29 November – 3 March 2013
The 60 year career provides rich pickings, and highlights span the decades, from Jackie Onassis’s 1968 wedding dress to the gown Julia Roberts wore to pick up her 2001 Oscar. Along with plenty of showstopping dresses, Master of Couture also shows films of the clothes’ making. ‘The atelier crafted each piece so diligently by hand, taking hours, sometimes days to complete,’ the 80-year-old designer enthuses. ‘The details are incredibly intricate, though outside runway events, the designs have rarely been seen, so to be able to showcase them at Somerset House, where they can be seen in great detail by the public, is very unique.’
