This year I sought a more organic and expressive way to weave this tapestry, to explore survival and rebirth, an intensely personal subject inspired by the loss of a sibling. It is also inspired by Shakespeare’s Sonnet 71, No Longer Mourn for Me. The figure is sinking into the black, but also, read differently, is emerging from it.
The tapestry is made from a cotton warp and a woollen weft, hand-dyed in rusts, ochres, walnuts, sands, browns and black.
