To Repair with Gold

About this project

Commission for the Vertical Gallery at Manchester School of Art Degree Show 2014.

Five handwoven dobby and jacquard panels inspired by the Japanese aesthetic ‘kintsukuroi’: the art of repairing broken pottery with gold or silver lacquer and the understanding that the object is more beautiful for having been broken.

The panels work as a beautiful and visually interesting feature for people to view both from a distance and up close, as intimate woven details are revealed.
