About this project

This body of work represents my early investigation into catharsis through material.

I consider emotional trauma experienced as a result of life-threatening illness and the need to give physicality to the intangible.  The experience of illness can give rise to a sense of separation from the intangible (healthy) ‘self’ and the ill (physical) ‘body’. Therein lies dependence if the self cannot exist without the body.

The glaze seeks release but is dependent on the clay body that contains it.
