About this project

Using the traditional ‘bars’ construction, strips of dyed fabric are sewn together to build up a block of colour punctuated by striations of saturated dye. Each piece of fabric is individually dyed in oak tannins and over the process of a few days builds up its visual depth and texture. As each strip is sewn together the fabric is allowed to twist and warp to give it its unstable shape. Using a mixture of hand and machine stitch to assemble the patchwork, it is then quilted entirely by hand.
