Block Party- Dress Block

About this project

Commissioned for the Leicester leg of the Crafts Council’s ‘Block Party’ show.

Dress Block is a triptych of three separate but interrelated elements. A conceptual representation of fashion pattern cutting, the work references the standard block from which evolving copies are taken. A felt garment is hand-formed onto a human-scale hand-carved body. A technique in both footwear and millinery known as block forming. One of Jo’s garment specialisms is direct body sculpting.
