Light and its power to transform our experience of architecture and landscape is at the heart of the work of artist and researcher, Dr Laura Johnston. Based in Newcastle upon Tyne, she established her studio in 1996 after receiving a Crafts Council Setting Up Grant. Working with a range of materials including glass, light, metals and plastics,  she has completed numerous architectural projects and public art works across the UK, developing an international profile for her work.


En'Light'en - an exploration of light and sensation

As Leverhulme Artist in Residence at Durham University, I have been working closely with bioscientists in the study of health care enviroments and their impact on well-being. A series of new works are now installed exploring light and changeability.
