Liz Clay

Felt maker and textile artist

Wells, Somerset

contemporary bespoke textiles

£200 — £1200

Trained in the creative arts, I make hand felted textiles for haute couture and one off pieces to commission. Influences are as diverse as the work I produce. Experimental in my approach, nudging the boundaries of an ancient craft towards new and unexpected directions in contemporary practice. British wool plays a significant role in my designs. Working these wools during the felt process is seductive: it’s a slow and painstaking process for a high end result. The aim is to surprise and delight.

Made to Commission

24 Mar 2018
A look behind the workshop doors to reveal how the commissioning process unfolds. Actual work, drawings, sketchbooks and digital images bring to life how selected Devon Guild members work with their client. Liz shows production for Christopher Kane.

Fab to be selected for a special event HOUSE in LA on 4th February. My couture designs will also show in the exhibition Wearable Expressions at the Palos Verdes Art Centre, Los Angeles until 16th April 2017.

Felt and Lace for Christopher Kane

01 Sep 2016
Liz's hand crafted fabrics are included in Christopher Kane's a/w16 collection. Delicate lace is transformed with her trademark hand felted surfaces in a riot of purple and blood red contrasting with faded blooms in Kane's dirty rose design.
