About this project

Equivalent IX consists of nine sets of nine counters, each set a different colour. It pays homage to Carl Andre’s Equivalent VIII. Andre’s work champions bricks (a material with which he was familiar as his grandfather was a brick layer). Mine celebrates buttons (to help make ends meet, my grandmother sewed buttons on to cards for a local haberdashery)

Techniques: Button making, hand-dyed silk, box making.

Dimensions: box: 10x11.1x11.3cm: each counter: 3.3diax0.7cm.
