Sara Impey

Quilt Maker

Coggeshall, Essex

text, stitch, quilt

£500 — £1000

Sara Impey makes textile artworks based on the techniques of quiltmaking.  She specialises in free-motion machine stitched lettering.  The sewing machine becomes a writing tool:  the words go straight from her brain to the needle.  With a background in languages and journalism, she is interested in exploring the point where the visual, verbal, tactile, structural and semantic come together on the textile surface.  Her work comments on contemporary issues.
