Tumblehome Tumblers

About this project

An ongoing collection designed for DOR & TAN ceramic design studio. They wanted a simple, pure and honest range for their first collection so I drew upon my love of Korean pottery for inspiration.

Later when developing this series I went for a walk around my home town where my studio is based for a decompress, and noticed the Tumblehome shape of boat hulls in the harbour. The subtle gentle curve of the boat hulls became the main design influence behind this collection.

3 OZ. ESPRESSO CUPS
Photographer: Viola Watkins & Matt Stocks
These 3 oz. Espresso Cups come in pairs, to enjoy a quiet coffee break alone or with a friend. The shape of these cups reflects the curvature of boat hulls, making the form perfect for cupping in your hand.
8 OZ. TEA BOWL
Photographer: Viola Watkins & Matt Stocks
These large 8 oz. Tea Bowl were first designed to be great for tea as the bowled shape dispels heat faster. Whilst working with Origin Coffee Roasters we found these cups are perfect for coffee or creating latte art as well. They are also lovely to have a between meal snack in such as yoghurt or chopped fruit for a little pick-me-up. The shape of these cups reflects the curvature of boat hulls, making the form perfect for cupping in your hand.
8 OZ. TUMBLER
Photographer: Viola Watkins & Matt Stocks
These 8 oz. Tumblers, are lovely to enjoy long drinks with a favourite book. The capacity was designed for lattes and tall coffees, but a big glass of cool water or homemade zesty lemonade on a summers day would be just as nice. The shape of these cups reflects the curvature of boat hulls, making the form perfect for cupping in your hand.
8 OZ. TUMBLER - SPECKLED
Photographer: Viola Watkins & Matt Stocks
These 8 oz. Tumblers, are lovely to enjoy long drinks with a favourite book. The capacity was designed for lattes and longer coffees, but a big glass of cool water or homemade zesty lemonade on a summers day would be just as nice. The shape of these cups reflects the curvature of boat hulls, making the form perfect for cupping in your hand. The speckled look of these cups is created by iron deposits in the clay which when fired emerges through the glaze.
8 OZ. TUMBLER - CHARCOAL
The charcoal clay for these cups is coarser than others we use giving it a pleasant rough texture to contrast with the smooth transparent glaze.
