The Colour of Hair

About this project

The innovative printing technique of ‘The Colour of Hair’ uses human- and animal hair off-cuts to create sustainable and durable surface treatments and patterns on metal tiles. By applying hair to a heated surface, the material liquefies to an ink and carbonises on impact - a reaction caused by the hair’s main protein, keratin. Different fibre types and multiple applying techniques create unique patterns, from
pulverised hair printed trough a rasterized mesh or heat steamed hair-fabrics result
