The winners of our 2017 MMU Graduate Award, glass blower Jahday Ford and digital designer Joseph Hillary, bring together the two worlds of glass and digital design in this exhibition that pushes the material boundaries of glass using innovative techniques.
Inspired by digital craftsman Michael Eden and his Audrey Lamp, Jahday and Joe wanted to produce a similarly impressive form whilst preserving the individuality and connection to the maker that manufactured pieces often lack. By recording the sound of Jahday blowing into the blowing iron and using digital design techniques to convert the visual sound wave into a 3D mold, Jahday and Joe have cleverly captured the moment in time when the craftsman embodies himself within the work with the first breath; an essential element to the creation of any blown piece. The exhibition runs from 15/02/18 - 13/05/18. Free launch event: Thursday 8th February, 6-8pm Join us for drinks and live music from resident DJ Ailsa McLaggan of Living Room Dance Club.
