RE~MASTER Embroidery Hack Workshop

RE~MASTER Embroidery Hack Workshop will explore new ways to engage with digital technology to learn and innovate craft. The workshop is to engage audiences of all ages to create part machine part handmade embroidery. The idea is to alternate traditional hand stitching with a completely new, sketch-to-embroidery process, that allows for immediate translation from sketch to digital embroidery.

What experience do I need?
No need for any previous experience in neither hand embroidery nor digital embroidery. It is about experimenting with the medium for new, exciting outcomes!

What will I make?
All family is invited to co-create a mixed media piece of textile combining hand embroidery with digital embroidery.
You can then take your finished artwork home or wear it (if you want to work on a t-shirt for example).
The idea is to mix digital and hand made. You'll also be able to see your hand sketched design interpreted by the software as an immediate digital embroidery output!
The software doesn't require any previous skills, as it is sketch-to-embroidery, anyone can turn their design into digital embroidery.

Who will be teaching me?
Sabina Weiss, the designer behind RE~MASTER will be assisting the workshop. Sabina's work encompasses the dynamic interplay of craft and technology to create interactive experiences.

Do I need to bring anything?
The materials provided cover the digital embroidery process (there will be threads for digital embroidery as well as fabric provided). You can also bring your own piece of fabric (non-stretch cotton seems best for digital embroidery, but feel free to experiment!) and if you'd like to do some hand embroidery, please bring your hand embroidery needles and yarn.
