Digital Play: Smart Technologies and Materials

To coincide with the expansion of Napier's Fabrication Studio, the School of Arts & Creative Industries in conjunction with Anarkik3D Ltd., will provide a unique opportunity for the public to experience an interdisciplinary workshop of digital craft making in conjunction with colour-change and light-emitting responsive materials.

Over the course of a day you have the opportunity to try your hand at digital design using award-winning Anarkik3D modelling software with its unique haptic controller and witness your designs being 3D-printed in thermochromic temperature-responsive material.

Discover the excitement of working with optical fibre and ways of drawing with light. Explore interesting ways to make your novel creations interactive and come alive with light using Arduino microelectronic components. You can work with pre-designed objects or make your own! There will be an exhibition of work at the end of the day, and lunchtime tours of the design studios.

The workshop is being offered on both days.

The workshop is suitable for persons 16 years and above, designer-makers, applied artists and all enthusiasts with an interest in crafting with new technologies and responsive materials!
