Yesterday at Somerset House was an exceptional night of Awards, followed by Pom Pom making for peace. The Awards were a huge success in honour of the work seen at Origin over the last two weeks. With speeches from Rosy Greenlees, Executive Director, Crafts Council and Corinne Julius, Evening Standard, Homes & Property celebrating the very best in contemporary craft, it was a special occasion.

The Awards were then followed by Pom Pom international, an experimental participation activity of Pom Pom making for peace and conflict resolution. Lead by Amy Lamé, the global phenomenon of yarny art was aimed to promote peace and understanding across the world through pom pom making by travelling to areas of conflict to make whimsical, non-political, creative balls of fluffy yarn.

End

The Awards could not have been possible without the strong support from the award sponsors, all the makers and awardees. The event was attended by the some of the most senior representatives from the sector, who came to honour the outstanding Origin Award finalists and award winners.

Origin 2008 has seen work of the highest calibre from every discipline, which provided the judges with a real challenge. The Crafts Council would also like to thank Amy Lamé for the hugely successful and enjoyable Pom Pom extravaganza and everyone that contributed to it.
