The first Take Stock participants meet their mentors to discuss their future plans

The Crafts Council is proud to be working with craft retailers to help develop their business through the Take Stock scheme…

Three retailers have been matched with mentors who are working with them over an eighteen month period between 2010 and 2011. The mentors are specialists in their field and have been selected to work with each of the retailers’ specific requirements, these include in-store design, marketing and brand development. They offer the mentees a chance to develop their thinking whilst receiving support to grow their ideas and take the business forward.

The Take Stock Scheme

Take Stock is an initiative developed by the Crafts Council to offer UK based retailers the opportunity to receive one-to-one business assistance. Designed to nurture innovative ideas and to challenge current ways of working in craft retail, this scheme offers the chance for retailers of contemporary craft to deliver forward thinking projects.

Its Aims:
• to stimulate retailers of contemporary craft to experiment and challenge perceptions of how craft is presented for sale
• to encourage the progress of established retailers to expand into new areas of operation
• to raise awareness of the availability of high-quality independent craft retailers among the buying public in the high street.
