Cut and Paste
Sally Moir
2007

Sally Moir’s curatorial investigation Cut and Paste examines how craft can be presented in new ways to new audiences, through interventions in the workplace. The project takes craft outside its usual environments – the gallery, museum and shop – into the work environment, which is most usually functional, and not considered aesthetically.

Sally has built up relationships with a range of makers and companies, with a view to inviting selected employees of the companies to wear a collection of hand-crafted ties to work. As part of the project, the wearer will record their interactions and experiences of wearing the ties.

Future plans for the project include the distribution of ties throughout a range of pinpointed sites in the UK, where industry and media participants will be invited to wear the ties, and to document and report back on their experiences, using a flip camera that can be instantly downloaded and sent back. Sally is also exploring how her research findings can be presented as an exhibition at the 2010 Dundee Craft Festival.

The project has further developed to deliver a series of events titled ‘Tea Cosy’ and ‘tea cosy too’. Both are alternative art, craft and design fairs that showcase contemporary makers across a range of disciplines.
