“Work that has meaning is the ultimate luxury. When so much is done for us by systems that process without bothering to find out who we are, products and experiences that are crafted just for us will become luxurious.” Charles Leadbeater, Independent writer, COLLECT 2012 catalogue.

The Crafts Council’s new touring exhibition Added Value? questions the value of contemporary craft within branding and luxury. It will launch at designjunction from 20-23 September 2012 during the London Design Festival.

The current desire for authenticity, quality and craftsmanship is redefining notions of luxury. The term craft has been adopted as a validation of quality and value by brands and more widely. This exhibition investigates differing perceptions of value, the wider public interest in the provenance and production narratives connected with the things we buy and use, and the notions of value.
