Craft makers already work within a range of industries bringing specialist skills to sectors ranging from biotechnology, engineering and materials science to manufacturing and digital and communications technology. They collaborate with scientists, engineers and technologists to drive innovation and introduce new ways of thinking.

Ed Vaizey MP, Minister for Culture, Communications and the Creative Industries will provide the government’s perspective on makers’ value in these other sectors.

Industries are now radically re-appraising how they assemble, repair, generate and work with materials and the systems through which they do this. This means there will be many opportunities for makers and designers to contribute their specialist skills and knowledge of materials and help re-imagine new systems and processes.

Assemble 2012 will explore how the unique skills of makers can contribute to these developments via a series of keynote speeches, panel discussions and workshops over one day.
